•Step 1
Format a flash drive. Insert the flash drive into any available USB port. Go to "My Computer" and right click flash drive. The name will vary based on your model. Select "Format" and press "Start." Don't remove the flash drive after formatting.

Open the folder you downloaded, if one exists. If there is only a single executable file, copy the file straight to your flash drive. View any text files as they may include manufacturer-specific instructions. Follow any instructions to copy the file to your flash drive. If none exist, copy the entire downloaded file or folder to your flash drive.

•Step 6
Reboot your computer with the flash drive still inserted. Boot from the flash drive. If it doesn't boot from the drive automatically, press "F12" during the boot process for boot options. Choose "USB Drive." Allow the BIOS update to run. Your computer will reboot once the process is complete

Step 1

Insert a USB flash drive into an open USB slot on your computer. Remove any important files from the drive, because it must be formatted to be made into a boot drive.

The only other prompt that should appear, if any, is a prompt asking if you wish to reboot the computer now. Simply select yes or no. If you don't reboot the computer at this prompt, the flash drive will not be usable.

•Step 3
Log off or restart the computer.

Transfer wanted files to the USB flash drive. This can be music, video, documents, or whatever you want, as long as it does not exceed the drive size. Once the information is on the flash drive, you can remove the flash drive and take it to another computer.

Disable the hardware device. Once the information is on the flash drive, you can remove the flash drive and take it to another computer. Before you do this, be sure to go down to your task bar in the lower right hand corner. Place your mouse pointer over the icons. Find the one that says "Safely Remove Hardware." Choose this and disable the flash drive before removing it. This is to help ensure you do not lose any data you have stored on the flash drive.

Some companies prevent you from writing and/or reading your usb flash drive administratively through a registry setting. I will describe a way to get around this WITHOUT hacking anything and by leaving absolutely no trace. This is only for cases where the usb functions are disabled through software, not by hardware

Step 1

create a Live CD, which is a bootable CD with an OS on it. The simplest is to download "Damn Small Linux" or DSL, from http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/download.html
you will want a file that looks something like dsl-4.4.10.iso, but the version might be different. Burn the ISO image onto a CD using the burn image function.
Step 2

If you are paranoid, disconnect the network cable.
Step 3

Reboot your computer and make it boot from the CD. You may have to modify your BIOS settings for this.
Step 4

Once the live cd is booted, plug your usb flash drive in and mount it. With some computers it may show up as drive sda instead of usb.

you now have read/write access to your usb flash drive and your company's none the wiser. copy files to/from your hardrive. When done, take out the CD and reboot the computer to your corporate OS. Don't forget to plug the network cable back in.

Windows XP and Windows Vista do not offer DOS to USB support. Operating systems before that, however, have tricks to get USB's working. To make this happen the user must download a USB driver. This can be found at the end of this article for the required ZIP file needed. After a little bit of editing to the autoexec.bat and config.sys files, you'll be up and running

Step 8
Add the following lines to autoexec.bat:

The last line is actually for your cdrom device. This method is to allow all USB devices to work from DOS, not just the USB drive.

Save autoexex.bat

Restart the computer. The computer will boot off of the disk and you will have USB support.

There are 2 methods for clearing data off of a USB flash drive and they can both be performed quickly the next time you need an empty drive.

Manual

Step 1
Insert your drive into a USB port. Wait for the computer to read the drive and load the content. Open up "My Computer" through the Windows menu. Look for the drive listing and double-click on it so a new window opens up.
